I want to know what in your opinion are the best vampire flicks ever made - not so much in terms of special effects but in terms of story, mood etc. Any ideas??

Dracula Dead And Loving It Blade is great. Fright Night. From Dusk 'Til Dawn. Interview With A Vampire.
Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula is brilliant and terrible at the same time.
Queen Of The Damned is unwatchable. The Night Flier is a nice little Stephen King film about a reporter, a vampire and private planes. Worth tracking down. By the way, do you know what the most financially successful vampire film of all time is?..... Van Helsing.

I thought I'd just throw in:
- Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark (1987) with the always excellent Bill "Game Over, Man!" Paxton... the film people should've seen instead of Lost Boys...
- 30 Days of Night (2007) is also very good
- Nochnoi Dozor aka Nightwatch (2004) is great if incomprehensible
- The Lost Boys (1987) - I don't really like this film to be totally honest but a LOT of people do... possibly because of the combined powers of The Two Coreys...
- Van Helsing (2004) sucks ass... especially the f*cking ending.. but I could look at Josie Maran all day...
- Blade (1998) is awesome, not so much the sequels
- The Omega Man (1971)! Lol, i can never say talk about that film with a straight face... same for Blacula (1972), not cos I've actually seen it of course

Near Dark has the most intimidating 'vampires in a bar' scene I've ever watched.

I thought "30 Days of Night" was pretty rubbish, myself.
I'd recommend the original 8 Dracula movies featuring Christopher Lee, especially the first one. Christopher Lee is awesome.
If you're looking outside film, the "Angel" TV show is fantastic stuff.

30 Days Of Night started really well (which is what happens if you rip off The Thing) but then lost its momentum more and more, and made a lot of mistakes. Decent film, that should have been great.
PS So what happened to that senile old man?

30 days of shite.... good premise... but even me with my crap film knowledge felt like he was just watching a catalogue of ripped off scenes... booooorrrrriiiing film, even if the bad guy looked like someone out of a Pet Shop Boys tribute band.

Well right now the top vampire flicks off my mind would have to be The Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire, Queen of the Damned, Blade series, Underworld and Underworld Evolution. Ultraviolet is also sort of a vampire film in the future. I guess they keep trying to modernized the vampire word. The others I was thinking about earlier would be the Dracula series.

In my defence, when I was working/slacking off at the cinema I worked at, I DID only see the first hour of the film... bloody old senile man, I would've let him go in a heartbeat

30 day of night was cool, but interview with a vampire was the best in my opinion

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was an excellent movie, although I tend to lean towards Hellsing. I'm not sure if they'll have any movies about that but I know that Hellsing Ultimate is awesome from what I've watched. If you compare it to the Hellsing show than there's a complete difference. Other than the fact the Ultimate was based on the manga that was written and drawn by Kouta Hirano. What did you think about the original Vampire Hunter movie?

I like it, but I think that Bloodlust is in a class of its own.
I also think that Blood: The Last Vampire should have been much longer, I love the film but just as it starts to warm up, it ends.
I haven't seen much of Hellsing, I've been meaning to watch some for ages though, I'll need to check it out soon.

I'm on the final TV season of Buffy and, since it started with a film, I think it should be included. The campy action is tons of fun, but underneath the themes and intricate world and fantasy rules are brilliant. Angel could be included cause it was designed to interconnect.
