Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form sat down to show us some cool stuff from the Friday the 13th emake.
First, the teaser poster looks OK. Simple, but OK. It looks a bit like the Hannibal Lechter mask in moody lighting.
Second, the slapped-together trailer ... ok, I have to admit it looks fun. But this is by the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and that had an awesome trailer as well. This thing just looks too much like a music video ... the lighting is too, PERFECT. This should have been shot fast, cheap, and grainy. They needed to update the kills, the blood, etc. NOT the shiny slick digital look of modern films.
Some details announced by producers:
- Jason Voorhees will be the main villain of this remake. Producers felt it was too unbelievable to make a soccer mom the murderer. Plus, folks really remember Jason Voorhees so they made him the main killer, although the mother DOES make an appearance.
- Actor Jarod Padalecki doesn't even know if his character lives or dies.
- Derek Mears: this script combines elements from the first FOUR films and brings it back to reality, this is a man killing the kids (does this mean Jason will be supernatural? It hints maybe not ...)
- The producers tried to strongly root the film in reality. Per the producers they went TOTALLY away from the supernatural element.
- They never planned for other installments, they planned for one film and ENDED it like a finite story. So, no Saturday the 14th?
- Remaking The Birds ... and working on a deal to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street.
