Thousands of people may have flocked to catch the special previews, but that did not help The Dark Knight smash the UK Box Office record which it was predicted to do.
The latest Batman instalment staring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger took over £11 million from its special previews on Wednesday and Thursday and weekend screenings combined which was, unsurprisingly, more than any other film currently in cinemas, but did not break the record for the most takings for an opening weekend, according to reports.
So far, that prize still belongs to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which took over £23.8 million in its first weekend when released in 2004.
However, in the US, The Dark Knight has already generated more than $314 million in its ten days of release – more than its predecessor, Batman Begins, which took $205 million in its entire cinema run.
