Round #3
Friday the 13th Part III – Halloween III: Season of the Witch – A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

The Loser: Halloween III: Season of the Witch

The scariest image from Halloween III … which doesn’t actually appear in the movie

This is the scariest image to actually appear in the film

If WTF was a genre, Halloween III would be the patriarch, the way Psycho was the first slasher film. Boldly going where no Halloween movie had gone before, Halloween III: Season of the Witch is not about seasons, not about witches, and not about Michael Myers, the iconic villain from the first two films. Oddly enough, it is the last of the sequels to be directly supervised by creator John Carpenter, who demanded the third film take a turn to science-fiction.

The plot revolves around Stonehenge, American consumerism, drunk Irish people, masks, robots, and a television signal that turns children’s heads into snakes and bugs.

And the theme song, the Goddamn theme song!!!!!

Scariest Moment: when three little kids walk across a field in Arizona.
Worst Moment: when a forty-year-old man destroys a master plan by pushing three buttons.
Unintentionally Funny Moment: when a magic button shoots a blue laser into a mom’s mouth.

The Runner-Up: Friday the 13th Part III

And starring Sloth, as Jason Voorhees

Just when the series was starting to kick ass, the producers decided to make a 3-D sitcom. Other than the first, silly, boring kills, no one dies notably until an hour into the film.

The 3-D scenes in this film are hilarious, especially since they didn’t convert the 3-D to the DVD release so characters will randomly poke things at the camera for no reason.

This flick is notable for giving Jason his iconic hockey mask, but should be notorious for the extra obnoxious supporting cast, including, but not limited to, a pudgy prankster in a wet suit, two random 40-year-old hippies, a biker babe, a too-obviously-gay black gang member, and a local couple that keeps a general store infested with snakes and rabbits.

Scariest Moment: the obligatory “Jason attacks at the end” jump scene.
Worst Moment: when a scary noise turns out to be a rabbit eating vegetables.
Unintentionally Funny Moment: while hanging from a noose, Jason lifts his mask just to show his victim that he’s the dude that almost raped her in a flashback.

The Winner: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Now your kids can play their favorite scene with the "Freddy is a Giant Penis Snake" Playset

Using the term “win” in only the loosest sense, the third installment in the Freddy franchise manages to offer a few awesome moments amidst the usual sequel tripe.

Unlike Part 2, at least this sequel acknowledges the first film. It brings back the character Nancy and sets up a cool premise involving a young Patricia Arquette who can pull people into her dreams. Unfortunately is dissolves into a series of ridiculous special effects that involve nerdy kids doing nerdy things that get themselves killed … and ends with Freddy’s skeleton beating the shit out of a creepy old guy with a shovel.

Despite its flaws, Dream Warriors is rentable for the scene depicted in the children’s playset above and the deeply disturbing sequence listed as the “Scariest Moment” below.

Scariest Moment: when Freddy rips a kid's arteries out and uses him as a marionette.
Worst Moment: when the cute chick makes herself beautiful with switchblades and a Mohawk.
Unintentionally Funny Moment: when a kid’s super-power is to simply tweak the legs on an office chair.

Summary: Jason loses focus and Michael forfeits a round, while Freddy wins by default.

Excellent rundown. Personally I really rate the 3rd Nightmare film, it's filled with iconic moments. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say it's better than New Nightmare or Freddy vs Jason.

If you think you've been sliding through shit so far, you're about to hit the accelerator. Even Michael Myers' return is not a welcome one.

Actually it's the part 5s where depression really sets in across the board. At least you've still got Crispen Glover's dance to come before that.

While I agree that NIGHTMARE 3 is the best of the lot I really have to take issue that HALLOWEEN 3 is the worst.  I actually thinks a fun movie (albeit featuring some truly ridiculous improbable moments) that had it not been released under the HALLOWEEN banner would've found a bigger audience.  I can also say with complete and utter certainty that I would much rather rewatch this one instead of any of the sequels you have ahead of you . . . Not to mention Rob Zombie's "do over".

Agreed that Halloween 3 is far better than any of the Halloweens until you hit H20. It's a shame it failed, not because it didn't deserve to, but Carpenter's idea was that the Halloween series would tell a different story each year from then on, a far more interesting prospect than what we got.

Agreed, if the stories could be any good. But this wasn't ... this wasn't just unscary, wasn't just stupid, it was half assed. Such a mish mash of stolen parts, mostly from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Lazy.

You know, the first Halloween movie I ever saw was H20 ... and I loved the fact that Joseph Gordon Levitt dies BEFORE his name appears in the opening credits. That's pretty awesome.

Ice hockey is a dangerous sport.

The most utterly half-brained aspect of Halloween 3 is the robots. We're somehow expected to buy that there are perfectly realistic robots disguised as humans wandering around - without any explanation whatsoever as to where they came from. I mean, I'm all for suspension of disbelief but COME ON. The worst thing about it is that it's TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, the fact that they are robots isn't important to the plot whatsoever, they could have just been fanatics.

I'm partial to Friday the 13th on this one.  The kills just start getting absolutely ridiculous (hand stand, anyone).  I think I'm alone when I say I enjoy the next Halloween flicks.  Granted, they're terrible, but fun to watch nonetheless.  Oh yeah, during the bar scene in Halloween 4 when the news comes on, pay close attention to the female anchor, that's my friend's mother.  That's right, I know someone who's in a Halloween film that didn't get killed off.

Just got all the part 4s ... drinking a beer and going to get started ...

*shivers with fright*

Had such a hard time finding Friday 4 at Blockbuster, probably because it's the 4th movie out of 10 and a half and it's called THE FINAL FUCKING CHAPTER!

I'm watching Halloween 4 right now ... why the hell does he still have bandages on 10 years after the fire?

Perhaps it's because we didn't start the fire.  I mean, it's been always burning, since the world's been turning.  And even though we didn't light it, we have still tried to fight it...

Remember, watch for the news anchor at the bar.  And bandages make everything cooler.  How else do you explain mummies?

Surely each time they make a movie they get better at it?

Halloween 3 is a bit naff.  To be honest, I always found Friday the 13th Part 3 a bit lame too, but a poll I did on a F13 page showed that fans really love it.  But without the 3D I find it kinda lame.  Love The Dream Warriors for about 70 minutes, then it becomes Harry Potter with wizards and terrible puns (the first sign of the franchise losing its touch).  But the 'puppet' scene will always be one of the series' standout moments  :-)

Friday Part 3 is one of those films I know is rubbish, but I was still drawn to watch it many times in college. I think it might be because it delivers what it should, while making me feel smarter.

Jason Lives was a favourite when I was a kid.  I think it's because I was around nine when I first saw it so I was really impressionable and started to love horror, and it was fast paced and humorous.  I used to like Part 2 as well, though nowadays I find it too similar to the original in many respects.  But as far as Part 3 goes, I best it'd be fun in 3D, particularly with Rick's eyes popping out at the camera

Just to start off I read all the comments on this page, I have to disagree with a few, first I think Friday The 13th 1 through 4 are bad to the ass!!!  I also need to comment that I dont think that all the Halloween films suck till H20, I like part 5 and the sixth one (The Curse of Michael Myers).  Halloween 4 blew!  but I'll get into that when round 4 comes my way.  But I do have to agree that Halloween 3 was HORRIBLE!  It was defintley the worst film John Carpetner ever produced!

But lets get into Round 3....

Loser: Halloween 3

God this movie was horrible, the acting was bad, the plot was bad, the special efffects were bad, everything was bad!  Why take away Michael Myers?  I wish he would of came out in the end and killed evryone.  Now that would of been awesome.  If you notice that the Guy's ex-wife is one of the girls from the first film.  Just thought I'd throw that out there. Tommy Lee Wallace wrote and directed this film, he is also the writer of Amityville 2 and Fright Night part 2.  But overall this movie was crap!

Runner Up: Friday the 13th part 3

I really like this film a whole lot, it was hard for me to come to a decision!  This film is super badass, its the first one where he gets the hockey mask.  He just pops in a scene wearing it, I love that.  I wonder what it was like to see it in theatres the first time?  The people in that audience had no idea that the mask was a beginning of a legacy.  The murders in this film are brutal!  Jason really lets some terror out for this film.  This thrid installment is a very important addition to the Friday The 13th saga.  This film along with the first 4 are really loved amoung the Friday The 13th Fans around the whole web.  Overall this film is super badass! I highly reccommend this everyone!

Winner: Nightmare On Elm Street 3- Dream Warriors

I like this one a whole lot!  The murder scenes are defintley upgraded from the first two films.  I chose this one over Friday The 13th because this movie had so many badass scenes, the production was high so that meant more creativity could be played in.  I am not going to give away too much about the kills, because if you havent seen it then you are for a treat.  Krueger in this film cracked my stuff up, he defintely gets more active and talkative in this one.  Overall this movie is worth watching, I personally own all the Nightmare, Friday and Halloween movies, and this is one that I can watch all the time.  I reccommend this movie to all horror fans all around!

I was reviewing this thread and I realised that I was pretty hard with my comments on Halloween 3- Season of the Witch. I have recently watched the film and I do enjoy it. If you just take ur mind away from the fact that its related with the Myers series, it not that bad of an 80s flick. Its so cheesy that its badass, so I feel bad about my harsh words towards this film and I take back what said!
