According to
Latino Review, the "remake" of John Carpenter's The Thing (which was itself a 1982 remake of
The Thing circa 1950, which was itself an adaptation of the short story
Who Goes There?) is actually a prequel.
It will chronicle the events leading up to Carpenter's fantastic Kurt Russell vehicle, which still stands as one of the best horror films ever made.
Kurt Russell discovers what happened to John Carpenter since Prince of Darkness.
Details are scarce, but it would seem likely that a prequel would focus on the Norwegian scientific research team which is found murdered at the start of the first film.
Personally, a prequel seems like a decent idea, although it sure does seem like more Hollywood cowardice in this downward trend of rehashing old ideas. I'm sure this installment of what was never intended to be a franchise will feature far too much CGI and break all the rules set up in the original.
Pretty f*ckin awesome, huh?I'd be far less cynical if I knew the prequel was in the hand of
these guys, as previously posted on Movie Moron.
