Studio Ghibli Reveals Next Two Projects19.12.12 # News # No Comment
Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli has officially announced its next two projects; The Wind is Rising and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
Set for release as a double-feature on the same day in 2013 (in an echo of 1988’s My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fire Flies simultaneous release), the two films will cover very different aspects of Japanese history and culture.
The Wind is Rising will be a biopic of sorts, covering the life of the designer of the Mitsubishi Zero Fighter, Jiro Horikoshi. Ghibli’s studio head and avowed aircraft enthusiast Hayao Miyazaki will be helming the film.
The Tale of Princess Kaguya will be based on the traditional Japanese folk story The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Ghibli co-founder artist Isao Takahata will be at the reins for this feature, which will make use of a very idiosyncratic (and strikingly beautiful) art style.
Take a look at the unsurprisingly pretty posters for each film below, and get ready to feast your eyes on what will hopefully prove more Ghibli gold next year.
